Landfill

- what is a landfill?
-what are the negative effect?
-what is the methane gas?
-what are the two ways of dealing with methane gas?

Landfill is a hole in the ground, and people put the rubbish bags and when the hole is full the people put soil on top and people can use the land again.

But one of bad things is that the methane gas is coming out from the ground, and it can be harmful to people, smelly and attract rats.

Methane gas is that come out from the rubbish bags, methan gas is a "greenhouse gas". Greenhouse gases are harmful to the environment. The cause global warming and create holes in the ozone layer.

There are two ways to dealing with methane gas, first if the methane gas is a good quality and there is enough gas (quantity) it can re used to make electricity. Second if methane gas is not quality and quantity then people burn it and it called "flaring" .

The Four 'R's
There are four main ways to reduce the amount of rubbish that ends up in landfill sites.
They are sometimes called the four 'R'.

Refuse:
A refuse mean say no or don't want it.
Reduce:
To make or become less, smaller.
Reuse:
Reuse mean use a thing again if something is not hardly broken, e.g I reuse my basketball.
Recycle:

Recycle means make new one with old things.
